Fodor’s choice of hotel in the Dordogne region of France is Château de la Treyne. Fodor’s says “Certainly the most spectacular château-hotel in the Dordogne, this Relais & Châteaux outpost sits in splendor in enchantingly Baroque gardens that are perched over the Dordogne River.” The only “Con” listed on Fodor’s for Château de la Treyne is the price. A Fodor’s user takes a different view of the hotel: “Who are they trying to kid. They’re charging top whack Ritz, Four Seasons prices for a Best Western service. At 800 euros a night for a room you expect so so much more. The front of staff appears to be wholly operated by a bunch of feckless surly sullen sour faced trouts.”
The best bet, as with all hotels, is to do some research and make your own determination about a hotel. Fodor’s on one hand, an independent traveler on the other.
